Delivery Specifications

Always check, before you order, if your print-file is in line with our Delivery specifications. This way you won't run into any surprises and Happyprinting.co.uk will be able to meet the expected delivery date.

Bleed and trimbox

Files must be delivered with 3 mm bleed and must include a trimbox. This edge outside the print-area allows us to finish the print in a beautiful manner (and not leave the possibility for a ‘white border’ where it is not wanted).

Document boxes

If you use an application from Adobe, you can use various layout frames during layout. These 'boxes' have different functions.

Cropbox: this is the outer visible frame. Everything outside this box is not visible in a regular pdf.
Bleedbox: it is used to display the bleed/bleed-frame. It is up to you how much bleed you use, we require a minimum of 3mm to be able to deliver correct printed matter. In theory, a bleed box can fall outside the crop box.
Trimbox: this box is the edge of the finished format and is also called the 'digital cut line'. Many systems will take this framework as a basic format. The moment you show visible crop marks, it will do so based on the trimbox.
Mediabox: the most important format is normally done within this framework. Make sure that all content is important within this framework. Normally, the media box is set to 5mm within the trimbox.

Roller banner

When creating layouts for a roller banners system please include 150mm at the bottom of non-visable image area for the leader sheet in the banner roller mechanism. This artwork must also have the standard 3mm bleed and can be supplied at 25% of finished size with all linked images at a minimum resolution of 300dpi.

Resolution

If you use images, it is nice if the image is clearly visible, despite your editing. With regular printing, we ask you to deliver your images to the file with a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.

With large images, where you are actually further away, think of posters, advertising signs etc, you can deliver with a lower DPI with a minimum of 150 DPI.

Pages

Make sure that when you submit your document (s) that it contains all the pages and pages that have to be printed. The pages must be delivered as separate pages in reading order in 1 file.

Pages formatted as a spread can not be processed. Happyprinting.co.uk considered leaflet sides as 1 page and should be formatted as such. See our working drawings for illustration.

Colour system

PMS is often used for home-style printing or with 1.2 or 3 colour printing. Always make sure PMS that you really choose PMS and not a mix on your palette, at that time it is no longer PMS. At PMS the printer knows exactly which colour it concerns because each PMS has its own number. You can choose a tint of a PMS colour, in this case, the density of the ink is reduced and the colour is lighter. Always keep a minimum of 10% of 1 colour to ensure no loss of color.

In full-colour printing, colours are made by a combination of CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, black). At CMYK you are not bound to a maximum of 4 colours as with PMS. However, there is a maximum of 280% colour occupancy. If higher, the colour is automatically reset to 280%. This is to prevent the ink from getting too wet and transferring to other printed matter, which can cause unsightly stains. Always keep a minimum of 10% of 1 color to ensure no loss of colour.

Rich black formula

When creating large images we would recommend using a CMYK rich black formula, resulting in a deep, intense black. The rich black Hapyprinting.co.uk feel is the best result for printing is as follows: 40% cyan, 40% magenta, 40% yellow and 100% black.

Line thickness

Make sure that lines and texts do not fade or close at 100% zoomed out. This can lead to the same effect in the final printed matter.

Letterfonts contours:

Because there are countless options with fonts, it is possible that the desired font is not available at the print shop. Unfortunately, when printing by the system, another substitute font will be randomly selected. This can lead to negative results. We, therefore, recommend 2 options:

Convert fonts to outlines: The letters are replaced with lines if they were and then have no font-related information. A disadvantage of this can be that no more changes can be made afterward, the letters are lines.
You can also choose to include the fonts in the file. The corresponding fonts are therefore included in the file.

Die-cut shapes, contour lines

It can be very useful to use auxiliary lines or punching forms so that it is easier to see how the printed material looks finished. Unfortunately, these tools are printed if these shapes and/or lines are in the file. If you want to show these shapes for illustration, make sure that you submit 2 files; 1 with and 1 without the tools. Give the file a clear name so that there is no misunderstanding which must be printed. Happyprinting cannot determine whether or not it should print the tools.

Transparency

Transparency can arise due to various causes. The result in your layout program is as you wish, but the printed matter can experience strange distortions. The pressing technique is not always able to print the image 1-to-1 as you deliver. For transparencies, we, therefore, recommend that you flatten them if possible (flattening) and merge the layers to 1 layer. This prevents possible, undesirable results in the printed matter. Happyprinting.co.uk does not check for transparencies. Unfortunately, only after delivery is clear whether transparency has been used and/or the printed matter is satisfactory. Happyprinting.nl is not responsible for checking transparencies.

Overprint

Overpressure is almost exclusively used in 100% K texts. Overprint ensures that there are no white edges around letters when printing. If you use overpressure in other places, undesirable results may arise. Check whether overprint is present in your print work. With Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Reader) you can easily detect overprint in your document.

Frames

Frames, (frames, frames, borders) in the document are only printed after a written commitment. Unfortunately, the smallest shifts in paper and printing could lead to frames not being as desired.

File types

We would like to receive your print files as PDF (for large PDF files ZIP or RAR, if necessary). Make sure that the name of the pages is clear if you submit as separate PDFs. For file types, ensure that the cutting data is visible so that we can check it. With our Graphical Editor, you can easily create pdf files for the product you want to order, using your own jpg, png and other graphics files. During the ordering process, you will be offered the opportunity to use the Graphic Editor. Do you encounter questions or problems when using our Graphic Editor? Feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help you.

Happyprinting.uk does not accept print files supplied in Powerpoint, Word or other Microsoft Office applications.
